Upcoming dates
- Sat. Dec. 12, 4 to 8 p.m. (tin pickup from 3:45 p.m.)
It is a once-a-year event and the third night of Candlelight Shopping, Main Street’s four Saturdays of late downtown shopping. The others this year are Small Business Saturday on Nov. 28, the Tree Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 5 and the Holiday Art & Wine Walk on Dec. 19.
Where it is and parking
The crawl covers participating businesses across historic downtown Melbourne, and every ticket comes with a map of the cookie stops. Start at the Melbourne Main Street office, 2004 Vernon Place, where tins are handed out from 3:45 p.m. Tins left unclaimed after 6 p.m. are not held, so collect yours early.
The organizer’s page does not give parking details for the night. Our downtown Melbourne guide shows the public garage and lots. The downtown Christmas parade steps off at 10 a.m. the same day, so check our road closures page if you plan to arrive early.
Tickets and cost
- $25 a ticket, bought online from Melbourne Main Street.
- One ticket is one tin. Each covers a keepsake tin and the stop map; a family that wants several tins buys several tickets.
- Sales are final. There are no refunds, but a ticket can be passed to someone else by emailing events@downtownmelbourne.com.
- Tins are limited. Main Street says the crawl sold out last year.
Proceeds support Melbourne Main Street, the nonprofit that works to revive the historic downtown. The organizer notes that tickets are not tax-deductible.
What to know
- One cookie per stop. Each ticket holder gets one cookie at each participating business, while supplies last.
- Allergies. Shops bake or supply their own cookies, which may contain wheat, milk, eggs, nuts, peanuts or soy, and ingredient lists may not be on hand at every stop.
- Rain or shine. The crawl is not canceled for weather.
- Santa is downtown too. Santa and Mrs. Claus stroll downtown from 4 to 8 p.m. and have a photo spot in La Galerie, between Strawbridge Art League and the Teahouse. Look for the Grinch and strolling holiday entertainers.
- Shops stay open late. Downtown stores are open until 8 p.m. for Candlelight Shopping, with holiday window displays along the way.
- Photography. Main Street says attendees may be photographed or recorded for its promotions.
For the rest of the season, see holiday lights and Christmas events and Black Friday and holiday shopping.
