Melbourne’s public schools are run by Brevard Public Schools, one countywide district, which also sponsors the charter schools. Call the district at 321-633-1000; the office is at 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way in Viera.

School zones do not follow the city limits. A child’s school depends on the home address, and several schools that take Melbourne students sit outside the city, on the beachside, in West Melbourne, Palm Bay, Satellite Beach or Viera. Check any address in the district’s School Zone Locator Map.

Who to call

How we built this list

We started with every Brevard Public Schools campus that the federal NCES directory lists with a Melbourne address, checked each against the city limits with the Census Bureau’s geocoder, and checked the internal point of each of the 1,098 populated 2020 census blocks inside the city against the district’s 2026-27 elementary, middle and high school boundary layers on Oct. 10, 2026. The schools below are the ones whose zones take in Melbourne residents, plus the choice and charter schools inside the city. The “Melbourne residents zoned” column is the share of the city’s 84,700 residents, by 2020 census count, who live in each zone.

Every school links to our own page with its address, phone, principal, report card, zone, calendar and, where published, bell times. Tables are in alphabetical order. Grades are Florida’s A to F school grades for 2025-26, each linked to the state’s report card.

Changes to watch

  • Boundary change. Comparing the district’s 2024-25 and 2026-27 middle school boundary layers, about 3,840 Melbourne residents in the Roy Allen Elementary zone moved from the Central Middle zone to the Johnson Middle zone. The district posts approved changes on yearly pages such as its 2025-26 attendance boundary page.
  • School choice for 2027-28. Renewal applications open Monday, Nov. 2; new applications run Nov. 16 to Jan. 8; the lottery is Monday, Feb. 8, according to the district’s timeline.

Other schools with Melbourne addresses

Suntree and Quest elementary schools have Melbourne mailing addresses in the 32940 ZIP code but sit outside the city, and their zones hold no Melbourne residents by our count. Heritage High, Discovery Elementary and Ocean Breeze Elementary zones each take in fewer than 10 city residents.

The federal directory also lists the district’s South Area Alternative Learning Center at 2175 N. Wickham Road, 321-242-4770, which families do not reach through a zone.

Private schools

These private schools have an address inside the Melbourne city limits in the federal Private School Survey for 2023-24, the latest available, checked against the city limits with the Census Bureau’s and Esri’s geocoders. Each name links to its federal record. Grades are as the school reported them. The state does not grade private schools.
