New Year’s Eve falls on a Thursday this year, Dec. 31, 2026. As of Oct. 9, no Melbourne venue had announced a 2026 New Year’s Eve event on the downtown calendar. The city’s own fireworks show is on the Fourth of July (see our Fourth of July fireworks page). Below is what downtown venues held last year, which tells you where to look, and the rules for the night.

These are the events listed on Melbourne Main Street’s calendar for Dec. 31, 2025. They show where to watch for 2026 announcements; they are not this year’s dates or prices.

Hotel Melby’s rooftop restaurant, The Landing Rooftop, is open until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 10 p.m. other nights under its regular hours; it had not posted New Year’s Eve plans when we checked.

Fireworks: what Florida law allows

Florida’s section 791.08 lets residents use fireworks “solely and exclusively” on three designated holidays: New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31; New Year’s Day, Jan. 1; and Independence Day, July 4. The law, passed in 2020, does not override a recorded homeowners’ association covenant that bans fireworks, but an HOA board cannot make new rules taking away that holiday right.

The Melbourne Fire Department’s sparkler safety tips note that sparklers burn at 2,000 degrees. The department recommends:

  • An adult supervises children using sparklers, and sparklers are used outside only.
  • Light and hold one at a time, at arm’s length, at least 6 feet from other people.
  • Don’t run with, throw or hand off a lit sparkler; wear closed-toe shoes and avoid loose clothing.
  • Douse spent sparklers in a bucket of water.

Last year the city’s notices said City Hall would close Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and that Jan. 1 would be a regular Waste Management service day. Watch the city news page in December for the 2026-27 schedule.
