Labor Day 2027 is Monday, Sept. 6. It closes out the summer on the Space Coast, in the middle of hurricane season. Labor Day is not on the City of Melbourne’s list of holidays with no curbside collection, so expect regular trash service unless the city posts a notice. Brevard Public Schools close for the day.

The city’s trash and recycling page lists five holidays with no trash, recycling or yard waste collection: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Things to do over the long weekend

  • Saturday, Sept. 4, 2027: the Farmer’s Market at Riverview Park, 2400 Riverview Drive, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Green Gables open house, 1501 S. Harbor City Blvd., 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Brevard Zoo, 8225 N. Wickham Road, open daily 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • City pools: Fee Pool and the Eddie Lee Taylor Sr. Pool run a summer season that starts on Memorial Day; check the city’s pools page for Labor Day weekend hours. See our summer camps and pools page.
  • On the water: boat launches at Ballard Park and Claude Edge Front Street Park, and fishing piers at Front Street Park and the Eau Gallie Pier; see parks and trails.
  • First Friday: the Eau Gallie Arts District’s First Friday Art Walk starts at 5:30 p.m. on the first Friday of the month, which in 2027 is Sept. 3.

Labor Day weekend falls near the statistical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 to Nov. 30. Check the National Weather Service in Melbourne’s forecast before a beach or boating day, and keep your plan current with our hurricane prep guide.
